The situation was different when Kajal threatened the Razakar commander in this way.

 Kutubaddi: - Which Ruhul?

 Kajal: - I have heard the discussion of liberation war from Ruhul, a student of history department.

 Kutubaddi: - I know Ruhul. The boy has grown a lot lately. Does he think that if his father is working for the liberation war in Mymensingh, he can become a minister if the country becomes independent? There is no guarantee that the country will become independent. Ruhul should be taught a lesson. But I don't know where Ruhul is now.

 At that time I saw Ruhul come in front of the door. Before Kutubaddi understood anything, Jamal winked at Ruhul and gestured not to give Jamal's identity to Kutubaddi. So Ruhul said to Kajal, "Kajal, don't you play ludu today?"

 On hearing this, Kutubaddi said to Ruhul, "Your father wants to fight and you want to play ludu, what's the matter? Or is there any other purpose?"

 Ruhul: - There is no other purpose.

 Kutubaddi: - I know your purpose. Your father wants to take part in the liberation war, so you are also secretly campaigning for the liberation war. I don't want you to do that again. But the consequences will be very bad.

 Sajed then said, "You are working for the Pak army as a razakar, and Ruhul is working for the liberation war. What is your problem with that?"

 Kutubaddi then widened his eyes and rebuked Sajed, "Where is the rudeness? Do you speak on my face? I am the commander of the Razakars, and what are you? If I beat you in front of the college, who will stop me? I am not saying that you are Kajal's friend. If you speak for the liberation war one day, you will be taken to the Pak army camp. " And said Kajal," You will must join in razakar's team. "

 Kajal then mumbled and said, "My home is Gafargaon. We have no house in Mymensingh city, no kin group. In what hope will I join the Razakars?"

 Kutubaddi: - There is no need for relatives. We Biharis also came to Mymensingh in 1947 in poverty. And now we are one of the factors in the politics of Mymensingh city. Even if your home is in Gafargaon, you too will be a great leader by doing razakari. And after the war, after getting the nomination of Gafargaon from our Razakar Party, you will become an MP.

 I then said, "Will you form a Razakar party even if there are many more parties including Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto, Maulana Maududi?"

 Kutubaddi: - In this chaotic situation of the country, we are united, even willing to form an all-party government. But in case of war, later we will pack sugarcane like ourselves. The main power will be controlled by the Pakistan Army and the government will be run by different political parties. So we will also be partners in the government by forming a new political party Razakar Party. But it also requires some sacrifice and labor.

 I saw that when Kajal heard about the party nomination, greed flashed in Kajal's face. So he greedily asked, "How is sacrifice and labor?"

 Kutubaddi: - To give up what one has the ability to do. Whoever has relatives will work with them. Those who have land will help the Razakars by selling the land. Whoever has the courage will loot the houses of the Hindus.

 Kajal: - But the person who sells the land and pays, will he be able to make that much profit?

 Kutubaddi: - It doesn't matter. We Razakars will win the war. So after the war, we will occupy people's land as much as we can and name them after ourselves. In this way, those who will sell land and do razakari will own more land after the war.

 Kutubaddi said to Ruhul, "Play ludu or play chess, never speak for the liberation war and against the razakars."

 Sajeed then said, "Ruhul is no longer doing anything directly like Kader Siddiqui. He is working as a think tank."

 Kutubaddi then laughed and said, "Think tank? If the Pak army can catch it, the think tank will explode."

 When we heard this, Ruhul also started laughing.

 Kutubaddi smiled and said to Ruhul, "You have a lot of great opportunities. Being the son of a freedom fighter, you can take great advantage. If you win Bangladesh at all after the war, your father will just say, you fought, then you will get a big certificate. But Kader Siddiqui doesn't have such an opportunity. Well, Ruhul, won't you give me a certificate of freedom fighter then? "

 Ruhul was surprised and said, "Why should I give you the certificate of freedom fighter? You are the commander of the Razakars."

 Kutubaddi: - You still don't understand anything about politics. It is a matter of personal convenience. But the war is a matter of national politics. Whatever the outcome in the national case, the nation will handle it. But in our personal affairs we will take advantage of ourselves.

 Jamal:- Well, after the war, what will you razakars benefit the freedom fighters?

 Kutubaddi: - If the freedom fighters win at all, then after the war we razakars will help the freedom fighters to improve their political position.

 Jamal: - How did you think that the freedom fighters would cooperate with you after the war?

 Kutubaddi: - Now even if the freedom fighters fight together, after the war they will be active against each other for political reasons, even killing each other. Then in such a situation we as a third party will work secretly for any group of freedom fighters. In this way we will benefit the freedom fighters after the liberation war.

 Hearing this, Ruhul turned his lips and said, "It may be your bizarre thought. What happens?"

 Kutubaddi: - Why not? Before 1947, the people of India fought against Britain, but later became independent by dividing. Again Karamchand Gandhi was shot by his followers. And now the people of East Pakistan are fighting against West Pakistan. Even if East Pakistan becomes independent, it will be the same.

 Ruhul: - When it happens, it will happen.

 Kutubaddi: - Wow. You have learned the language of politics very well. But remember, Razakars can also be useful to you because of the situation.

 Ruhul: - When it takes, it takes.

 Kutubaddi then laughed and said, "But don't forget me then."

 Hearing this, Ruhul did not say anything.

 After some more discussion, Kutubaddi left.

 After a while, Jamal said to Kajal, "Don't join the Razakars by selling the land. After selling the land and giving money to the Razakars, he will embezzle the money and chase you away like a dog."

 Kajal: - I understand that. I will never join the Razakars. I will also participate in the liberation war.

 We all clapped our hands when we heard this.

 Jamal then whispered very softly, "I am going to Dhaka by tomorrow morning train. You will fight under the commander Rahmat of the freedom fighters of Mymensingh."

 Jamal said this and went to Ashraful's house.

রাজাকারের কমান্ডারকে কাজল এভাবে ধমকি দেয়াতে পরিস্থিতি অন্য রকম হয়েছে।

আমি টেনশন করছি এই কারণে যে, এখন যদি কাজলের এই হুঙ্কারের কারণে কুতুবদ্দির সামনে এটা প্রকাশিত হয়, জামাল মুক্তিযুদ্ধের জন্য লোক সংগ্রহ করছে এবং আমিও মুক্তিযুদ্ধ করতে চাই, তাহলে পরিস্থিতিটা মারাত্মক হবে। কিন্তু কাজলের কথাতেই পরিস্থিতিটা অন্য রকম হল।

এতক্ষণে কাজলের মাতলামি প্রায় শেষ হয়েছে। তাই সে বলল, " রাজাকারের মিটিং আমি আজ দেখে এসেছি। কিন্তু মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষের আলোচনা আরো অনেক আগেই আমি শোনেছি। "

এই কথা শোনে কুতুবদ্দির চেহারায় রাগ ফুটে উঠল। সে রাগের সঙ্গে কাজলকে বলল, " কোথায় তুমি মুক্তিযুদ্ধের আলোচনা শোনেছ। "

কাজল :- আমাদের ক্লাসে স্যার মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে আলোচনা করেছিলেন। এবং এর পরের দিন রুহুলের কাছেও শোনেছি।

কুতুবদ্দি :- কোন রুহুল ?

কাজল :- ইতিহাস বিভাগের ছাত্র রুহুলের কাছে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের আলোচনা শোনেছি।

কুতুবদ্দি :- রুহুলকে আমি চিনি। ছেলেটা ইদানিং খুব বেশি বেড়েছে। ওর বাবা ময়মনসিংহে মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে সাংগঠনিক কাজ করছে বলে কি সে মনে করে যে, দেশ স্বাধীন হলে সে মন্ত্রী হতে পারবে ? দেশ স্বাধীন হওয়ারই ত কোন নিশ্চয়তা নাই। রুহুলকে একটা উচিৎ শিক্ষা দিতে হবে। কিন্তু রুহুল এখন কোথায় আছে, সেটাই ত আমার জানা নাই।

এমন সময় দেখলাম দরজার সামনে রুহুল এসে উপস্থিত হল। কুতুবদ্দি কিছু বুঝার আগেই রুহুলকে জামাল চোখ টিপে ইশারা করল যেন জামালের পরিচয় কুতুবদ্দিকে না দেয়। তাই কাজলকে রুহুল বলল, " কাজল, আজ লুডু খেলবি না ? " 

এই কথা শোনে রুহুলকে কুতুবদ্দি বলল, " তোমার বাবা যুদ্ধ করতে চায় আর তুমি লুডু খেলতে চাও, ঘটনা কী ? না কি অন্য কোন মতলব আছে ? " 

রুহুল :- অন্য কোন মতলব নাই। 

কুতুবদ্দি :- তোমার উদ্দেশ্য আমি জেনেছি। তোমার বাবা মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করতে চায়, তাই তুমিও মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে গোপনে প্রচারণা চালাচ্ছ। আমি যেন তোমাকে আর এমন কাজে আর না পাই। পেলে কিন্তু পরিণতি খুব খারাপ হবে। 

সাজেদ তখন বলল, " আপনি রাজাকার হয়ে পাক বাহিনীর পক্ষে কাজ করছেন, আর রুহুল মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে কাজ করছে। এতে আপনার সমস্যা কী ? " 

কুতুবদ্দি তখন চোখ বড় বড় করে সাজেদকে ধমকে বলল, " বেয়াদব কোথাকার ? আমার মুখের উপর কথা বলিস ? যত বড় মুখ না তত বড় কথা ? আমি রাজাকারের কমান্ডার, আর তুই কী ? আমি যদি তোকে কলেজের সামনে পিটাই, তাহলে কে আছে আমাকে আটকানোর ? তোরা কাজলের বন্ধু বলে কিছু বলছি না। আরেকদিন যদি তোরা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে কথা বলবি, তাহলে তোদেরকে পাক বাহিনীর ক্যাম্পে নিয়ে যাওয়া হবে। " এই কথা বলে কুতুবদ্দি কাজলের দিকে ফিরে বলল, " তুমি আমাদের রাজাকারের দলে অবশ্যই যোগ দিবা। " 

কাজল তখন আমতা আমতা করে বলল, " আমার বাড়ি গফরগাঁও। ময়মনসিংহ শহরে আমাদের কোন বাড়ি - ঘর নাই, কোন জ্ঞাতি - গোষ্ঠী নাই। আমি রাজাকারের দলে যোগ দিব কোন ভরসায় ? " 

কুতুবদ্দি :- জ্ঞাতি - গোষ্ঠীর দরকার নাই। আমরা বিহারিরাও ত ১৯৪৭ সালে নিঃস্ব অবস্থায় ময়মনসিংহে এসেছিলাম। আর এখন আমরা ময়মনসিংহ শহরের রাজনীতির অন্যতম ফ্যাক্টর। তোমার বাড়ি গফরগাঁও হলেও রাজাকারি করতে করতে তুমিও বড় নেতা হবা। আর যুদ্ধের পর আমাদের রাজাকার পার্টি থেকে গফরগাঁওয়ের মনোনয়ন পেয়ে এমপি হবা। 

আমি তখন বললাম, " জুলফিকার আলি ভুট্টো, মাওলানা মওদুদিসহ আরো অনেকের দল থাকতেও আপনারা রাজাকার পার্টি গঠন করবেন ? " 

কুতুবদ্দি :- দেশের এই বিশৃঙ্খল অবস্থায় আমরা একজোট আছি, এমনকি সর্বদলীয় সরকার গঠন করতেও রাজি আছি। কিন্তু যুদ্ধ হলে পরবর্তীতে আমরা নিজেদের মত করে আখের গুছিয়ে নেব। মূল ক্ষমতা নিয়ন্ত্রণ করবে পাকিস্তানের সেনাবাহিনী আর সরকার পরিচালনা করবে বিভিন্ন রাজনৈতিক দল। তাই নতুন রাজনৈতিক দল রাজাকার পার্টি গঠন করে আমরাও সরকারের অংশীদার হব। তবে এজন্য কিছু ত্যাগ ও শ্রমেরও দরকার আছে। 

আমি দেখলাম দলীয় মনোনয়নের কথা শোনে কাজলের চেহারায় লোভ ঝিলিক দিয়ে উঠল। তাই সে লোভাতুরভাবে জিজ্ঞেস করল, " ত্যাগ ও শ্রমটা কেমন ? " 

কুতুবদ্দি :- যার যে সামর্থ্য আছে, সেটাই ত্যাগ করা। যার জ্ঞাতি - গোষ্ঠী আছে সে তাদেরকে নিয়ে শ্রম দেবে। যার জমি আছে সে জমি বিক্রি করে এনে রাজাকারের দলকে সাহায্য করবে। যার সাহস আছে, সে হিন্দুদের বাড়ি লুট করে আনবে। 

কাজল :- কিন্তু যে লোক জমি বিক্রি করে টাকা দেবে, সে কি ততটা লাভবান হতে পারবে ? 

কুতুবদ্দি :- সেটা ত কোন ব্যাপারনা। যুদ্ধে ত আমরা রাজাকাররাই জিতব। তাই যুদ্ধের পর যে যেমন পারি মানুষের জমি দখল করে নিজেদের নামে নামজারি করে নেব। এভাবেই যারা জমি বিক্রি করে রাজাকারি করবে, ওরা যুদ্ধের পর আরো বেশি জমির মালিক হবে। 

কুতুবদ্দি এবার রুহুলকে বলল, " লুডু খেল অথবা দাবা খেল, কখনই মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পক্ষে এবং রাজাকারদের বিরুদ্ধে কথা বলবানা। " 

সাজেদ তখন বলল, " রুহুল ত আর কাদের সিদ্দিকীর মত সরাসরি কিছু করছেনা। সে ত থিঙ্কট্যাঙ্ক হিসেবে কাজ করছে। " 

কুতুবদ্দি তখন হেঃ হেঃ করে হেসে বলল, " থিঙ্কট্যাঙ্ক ? পাক বাহিনী ধরতে পারলে থিঙ্কট্যাঙ্ক একেবারে ফাটিয়ে দেবে। " 

এই কথা শোনে আমরা ত বটেই, রুহুলও হাসতে লাগল। 

কুতুবদ্দি এবার মুচকি হাসতে হাসতে রুহুলকে বলল, " তোমার ত অনেক বড় সুযোগ আছে। মুক্তিযোদ্ধার ছেলে হওয়ার কারণে তুমি বড় সুবিধা নিতে পারবা। যুদ্ধের পর যদি আদৌ বাংলাদেশ জিতে, তাহলে তোমার বাবা শুধু বলবে, তুমি যুদ্ধ করেছ, তাহলেই দেখবা বড় একটা সনদ তুমি পেয়ে গেছ। কাদের সিদ্দিকীর ত এমন সুযোগ নাই। আচ্ছা রুহুল, তখন কি আমাকেও মুক্তিযোদ্ধার একটা সনদ দিবা না ? " 

রুহুল তখন অবাক হয়ে বলল, " আপনাকে কেন মুক্তিযোদ্ধার সনদ দিব ? আপনি ত রাজাকারের কমান্ডার। " 

কুতুবদ্দি :- তুমি এখনও রাজনীতির কিচ্ছু বুঝনা। এটা হচ্ছে ব্যক্তিগত সুবিধার ব্যাপার। কিন্তু যুদ্ধটা হচ্ছে জাতীয় রাজনীতির ব্যাপার। জাতীয় ক্ষেত্রে যে পরিণতিই হোক, সেটা জাতি সামলাবে। কিন্তু আমাদের ব্যক্তিগত ব্যাপারে আমরা নিজেদের মত সুবিধা করে নেব। 

জামাল :- আচ্ছা, যুদ্ধের পর আপনারা রাজাকাররা মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের কী উপকারে আসবেন ? 

কুতুবদ্দি :- যদি আদৌ মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা জিতে, তাহলে যুদ্ধের পর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদেরকে আমরা রাজাকাররা রাজনৈতিক পজিশন উন্নত করার জন্য সহযোগিতা করব। 

জামাল :- আপনি এটা ভাবলেন কী করে যে, মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা যুদ্ধের পর আপনাদের থেকে সহযোগিতা নেবে ? 

কুতুবদ্দি :- এখন মুক্তিযোদ্ধারা একজোট হয়ে যুদ্ধ করলেও, যুদ্ধের পর রাজনৈতিক কারণে একে অপরের বিরুদ্ধে সক্রিয় হবে, এমনকি পরস্পরকে হত্যাও করবে। তখন ঐরকম পরিস্থিতিতে আমরা তৃতীয় পক্ষ হিসেবে যে কোন একদল মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের পক্ষে গোপনে কাজ করে দিব। এভাবেই আমরা মুক্তিযুদ্ধের পর মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের উপকারে আসব। 

এই কথা শোনে রুহুল ঠোঁট উল্টে বলল, " এটা আপনাদের উদ্ভট চিন্তাও হতে পারে। এমনটা কি হয় ? " 

কুতুবদ্দি :- হবে না কেন ? ১৯৪৭ সালের আগে ব্রিটেনের বিরুদ্ধে সমগ্র ভারতের মানুষ সংগ্রাম করলেও পরে দু ভাগ হয়ে স্বাধীন হল। আবার করমচাঁদ গান্ধিকে ওর অনুসারীই গুলি করে মারল। আর এখন পশ্চিম পাকিস্তানের বিরুদ্ধে পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের লোকেরা লড়াই করছে। পূর্ব পাকিস্তান যদি স্বাধীন হয়ও, তাহলে ঐরকমই হবে। 

রুহুল :- যখন হয়, তখন হবে। 

কুতুবদ্দি :- বাহ্। রাজনীতির বুলি ত বেশ ভালোই শিখেছ। কিন্তু মনে রেখ, পরিস্থিতির কারণে রাজাকারও তোমার কাজে লাগতে পারে। 

রুহুল :- যখন লাগে, তখন লাগবে। 

কুতুবদ্দি তখন হেসে বলল, " তখন কিন্তু আমায় ভুলনা। " 

এই কথা শোনে রুহুল কিছুই বললনা। 

আরো কিছু আলোচনার পর কুতুবদ্দি চলে গেল। 

একটু পর কাজলকে জামাল বলল, " জমি বিক্রি করে রাজাকারের দলে যোগ দিবানা। জমি বিক্রি করে রাজাকারদেরকে টাকা দেওয়ার পর সেই টাকা আত্মসাৎ করে তোমাকে কুকুরের মত তাড়াবে। " 

কাজল :- সেটা ত আমি বুঝি। আমি কখনই রাজাকারের দলে যোগ দিবনা। আমিও মুক্তিযুদ্ধে অংশগ্রহণ করব। 

এই কথা শোনে আমরা সকলেই হাত তালি দিলাম। 

জামাল তখন খুবই আস্তে প্রায় ফিস ফিস করে বলল, " আমি আগামীকাল সকালের ট্রেনে ঢাকা চলে যাচ্ছি। তোমরা ময়মনসিংহের মুক্তিযোদ্ধাদের কমান্ডার রহমতের অধীনে যুদ্ধ করবা। " 

জামাল এই কথা বলে আশরাফুলদের বাসায় চলে গেল। 

কিন্তু কুতুবদ্দি এখন মিষ্টি মিষ্টি কথা বলে গেলেও, সে যে কত্তো ভয়ঙ্কর, সেটা দেখলাম পরদিন। (চলবে https://parg.co/bkns )
